The absolute best professional DSLR you can buy? As of March 2012, that will be the Canon 1D X DSLR Camera. Built to replace not one but two EOS-1D models, the 1D X sports three DIGIC processors — including dual DIGIC 5+ processors to allow for up to 12fps RAW shooting and 1080p video capture, and a dedicated DIGIC 4 for metering and AF control — an all-new 61-point AF system, an 18 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor, a new 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor, a super high speed, 14fps JPEG mode, and an all new shutter with carbon fiber blades rated for 400,000 cycles. Wonder what NIKON will be thinking?

And so the DSLR wars continue. The Canon EOS Rebel T2i ($1500) is the latest salvo from Canon, offering a number of improvements over the T1i it replaces. Highlights include 3.7fps shooting, ISO up to 6400, an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor, 1080p video at both 30 and 24 fps with full manual exposure control, an iFCL 63-zone dual-layer metering system, a 3-inch LCD, support for SDXC memory cards, and a 9-point AF system. If you’re already a Canon shooter, or simply want to save some money, the T2i also comes in a body-only package for $1400, giving you $400 to put towards a better lens than the middling 18-55 kit glass — in fact, it’ll pretty much cover Canon’s base 50mm f/1.8 prime. read more
